Athletics NI – Board Recruitment Candidate Profile
Athletics NI is seeking to strengthen and broaden the collective skills and experience of its Board. The existing Board has significant knowledge and practical experience of athletics and the wider sporting environment. The current recruitment exercise is therefore particularly focused on complementing that expertise through the addition of individuals with senior professional, commercial and organisational experience.
We would particularly welcome candidates with significant experience in one or more of the following areas: finance/accountancy and audit; corporate governance, risk and compliance; commercial and business development; HR and organisational leadership; strategic management; property, facilities or capital development; and senior private, public or third-sector leadership.
Candidates would ideally have experience operating at Board, executive or senior leadership level, with the ability to contribute strategically, provide independent scrutiny, understand organisational risk and governance, and support the continued development and sustainability of Athletics NI.
Previous experience within athletics is not required. Indeed, we are particularly interested in individuals who can bring different perspectives, networks and professional experience from outside the immediate athletics environment, complementing the considerable sporting knowledge already represented on the Board.
Athletics NI is also establishing an Audit and Risk Committee, and candidates with strong finance, audit, risk, governance or corporate assurance experience may be particularly well placed subsequently to contribute to that Committee.
While specialist expertise is important, we are looking for individuals who can contribute as Board members across the organisation, rather than solely representing their own professional discipline. An interest in sport, community development and the positive role of athletics across Northern Ireland would be advantageous.
