Sports Law Conference 2026 Returns with Focus on Duty of Care in Sport
The Sports Law Conference 2026 will take place on Friday 13 November 2026 at Malone Golf Club, Belfast, bringing together leading legal experts, sports administrators, safeguarding professionals and governance practitioners to examine one of the most important issues facing sport today: Duty of Care in Sport.
Now firmly established as a key event in the sporting calendar, the annual Conference provides a unique opportunity for those working across sport, recreation, governance and the legal profession to hear from some of the most respected voices in sports law and athlete welfare.
This year’s programme will explore the evolving responsibilities of sporting organisations, from athlete wellbeing and concussion management to online safeguarding risks and anti-doping developments. As sport continues to adapt to changing expectations, increasing regulation and emerging challenges, the 2026 Conference will provide valuable insight into the legal and governance issues shaping the future of sport.
Attendees will hear from a distinguished line-up of speakers including Professor Jack Anderson, one of the world’s leading experts in sports law; Keith McGarry of Sports Law NI and Conn & Fenton Solicitors; Paul Stephenson from NSPCC Sport; and Wendy Henderson of Sport NI, alongside Dr David Irwin, Trevor Ringland and Mark Orr KC discussing concussion, athlete welfare and liability in sport.
The Conference will also feature a sports law update, a review of global developments affecting sport, and an examination of the implications of the World Anti-Doping Code 2027 for athletes and governing bodies.
Richard Honeyford, Chief Executive of the NI Sports Forum, said:
“Duty of care has become one of the defining issues facing sport. Whether discussing athlete welfare, safeguarding, concussion protocols or governance responsibilities, sports organisations are navigating increasingly complex challenges. This Conference provides an invaluable opportunity to learn from leading experts, share experiences and ensure that sport in Northern Ireland continues to evolve in a safe, inclusive and responsible way.”
The Conference is accredited for 3 hours of Group Study CPD and is expected to attract delegates from across the sporting, legal and public sectors. It also provides an excellent networking opportunity for those involved in the governance and delivery of sport throughout Northern Ireland.
